Springfield golfer Jake Erickson awarded sponsor exemption to play Memorial Health Championship

Springfield— April 26, 2023 The Memorial Health Championship presented by LRS announced that Jake Erickson, a seven-time Springfield Men’s City Golf champion, has been awarded a sponsor exemption to allow him to compete in the Korn Ferry Tour event in Springfield.

Erickson, a Springfield native, said he is thrilled to play on his home course, Panther Creek Country Club.

“It’s truly an honor for me to be a part of this great event,” Erickson said. “These are some of the best players in the world, and I’m thankful to Memorial Health and LRS for providing me this opportunity.”

Tournament director Kate Peters said organizers are excited to have Erickson as part of the field.

“Golf fans in central Illinois are very familiar with Jake’s talent,” Peters said. “We’re happy to have a local player of his caliber join the field, and we encourage fans to come out and cheer him on during the tournament.”

Erickson set a record for most City Golf championships when he won for the seventh time in 2021. He also has five top-ten finishes at the Illinois State Amateur, and won the Big Blue Intercollegiate title as a senior at Southern Illinois University. Erickson also is a four-time Panther Creek Club Champion. Erickson, 32, is vice president of sales and marketing at Kwik-Wall, a Springfield manufacturer of movable wall systems.

“This event brings fans and sponsors together for a first-class event that showcases the future stars of the PGA Tour, and having a Springfield golfer competing will only heighten that excitement. We’re thrilled to offer Jake this opportunity,” said Aimee Daily, PhD, Memorial Health senior vice president and chief transformation officer. Memorial Health is proud to be a part of this tournament, which builds strong communities through local partnerships and charitable giving.”
